The Staynor Stand Off

Author: Art Gibney (Red Wing coach, ret.)

The coaches are winning for 25 years
To win with a do or a die.
But these same coaches know that on any one day
The best they can get is a TIE.

In fact if they're short a first liner
And Nick puts a substitute in.
If he's not what you call an "A" player
Then it's not likely your day to win.

There are those who would play hockey inside
But Nick likes the great out of doors.
Apart from fresh air, there's no blue line
Which can sometimes influence the score.

The "B" league of course has no icing
The boys rush to one end and back
And get lots of skating skills practice
Without slowing down the attack.

And the referee rushes beside them
Covering the play far and wide.
With but one pair of eyes it's no wonder
That Nick misses the odd offside.

Aristotle, Kant, Plato and Staynor
These men walk on common ground.
They are 4 of the greatest philosophers
That this world has ever found.

Nick's philosophy is one of balance
That goal for which we all try
He achieves with the "Staynor Standoff" -
Creating harmony with a TIE.

For 25 years he's been reffing,
Convening and running the store.
We hope our respect and affection
Will sustain Nick for 25 more!
